Candidate for council member for modern education and wellbeing

Mgr. Tomáš Bederka

Tomáš Bederkač. 2

We have to modernize our schools quickly so our children can hold their own in the 21st century.

I was born in Smíchov, my roots are in Košíře, and I am the fourth generation of my family living in Prague 5. I am a husband and the father of a small son. Professionally I have long worked at the intersection of education, culture and marketing. I graduated from the Faculty of Education at Univerzita Karlova, where as a member of the faculty leadership I took an active part in reforming teacher training. I co-founded the Otevřeno initiative and several other nonprofits, and started projects that reformed the preparation of future teachers.

I began as a teacher at a school in Sázava, and later became a member of the dean's board at the Faculty of Education.

Today I am the marketing director of Univerzita Karlova and I teach part-time at the Faculty of Arts.

With Piráti in Prague 5 I am, after a short break, back to focusing on education. I want to push through a fundamental reform of schools in Prague 5, so that we can claim to have become the brains of Prague. That means attracting the best teachers, giving principals fair support, and a district hall that can work with data and has a clear vision for running education.

What I want to push through

  • Attract the best teachers and principals to Prague 5
  • Create a center for children with talent that identifies gifted pupils and works with them
  • Create a service center for school management
  • When merging schools and preschools, follow the best systems in the world, such as Ontario or Finland
