Safer streets and fewer cars

What we want to push through

Before/after

Transportation is mostly in the hands of the city and the public transit company. A district doesn't build the metro, tram lines or large park-and-ride lots on its own. What it can do, and will do: defend people on foot and the residents of residential streets, push for local traffic calming and separate walking and cycling from cars. The role of the district government is initiative, negotiation and pressure, so that streets belong to people too and not only to cars.

What exactly, within 4 years

Parking linked to transit. Together with the city and the outer districts we will support new park-and-ride lots on the approach routes and connect them to frequent public transit. At critical spots a dedicated carpool lane, smart traffic lights and higher zone prices for non-residents will help.
Safe surroundings around schools and preschools. We will keep calming traffic near schools: crossings, protection for stop islands, pedestrian and shared zones in local centers. Concrete steps for the safety of children, parents and seniors.
Separated walking routes and bike paths. The Anděl–Poštovka bike route, connecting the routes along the Vltava with the ferry to Císařská louka, and links to Košíře, Motol and Barrandov. Along with nature trails to Chuchelský háj, Prokopské údolí and Dívčí hrady.
Step-free transit and key buildings. With the public transit company we will secure as many step-free connections as possible on the lines serving Prague 5, and make the district offices and key healthcare facilities step-free. Prague 5 should be accessible to everyone: to seniors, to parents with strollers and to people with disabilities.

When a child can walk to school safely, nobody has to drive them. That's the kind of transportation we want.
