Anděl

Priority
  • Before/after

Central Smíchov has everything it needs to be one of the best places in Prague: the Portheimka summer palace, two parks on náměstí 14. října, a direct link to the Vltava river and excellent public transit. For more than twenty years, though, parked cars and broken walking routes have fragmented it. Revitalization studies have been sitting there since 2002 and every one of them stayed on paper. Twenty years of waiting for a welcoming center of Smíchov is enough. We will put an end to the delays and get it done.

Vision · Before and after

Drag the handle. Today on the left, after the change on the right. (Visualizations are in preparation.)

What exactly, within 4 years

  • More space for people on foot around Anděl. Step by step we will transform the busiest places around Anděl so they are comfortable to walk through, to spend time in and to use the services. We will push through traffic calming and wider pedestrian areas on Nádražní and Lidická streets, and negotiate the changes with the city and the institutions involved so they actually get built.
  • Štefánikova as a living shopping street. We will start with the reconstruction of Štefánikova and turn it into a pedestrian shopping street where it is good to shop, to sit down and to run into neighbors. The inspiration is Moskevská street in Prague 10: once hemmed in by cars, today the living center of Vršovice and a natural place to meet.
  • Portheimka and náměstí 14. října as one park. Today streets and a parking lot divide them; we will connect them into one continuous public space. In place of the parking lot on part of Preslova street there will be greenery and room to rest, for children and for culture, together with work on the surroundings of Portheimka and the metro vent.
  • From Anděl on foot all the way to the Vltava. A direct, comfortable connection to the Smíchov riverfront barely exists today. We will create a continuous, shaded and safe walking route: add crossings, remove barriers and open the riverfront to people on foot, to parents with strollers and to cyclists.
Filip Karel
The heart of Smíchov shouldn't be a parking lot. After twenty years of studies it is time to finally give Anděl back to people.
