Culture closer to people
Culture in Prague 5 is fragmented today. The culture committee administers grants rather than initiating projects, Barrandov as one of the largest neighborhoods has no cultural identity of its own, and the baroque Portheimka sits unused. Small community events live on the enthusiasm of individuals and disappear just as fast. We want to support above all the small and neighborhood events, the people who actually do something, and to start also where there has been nothing so far.
What exactly, within 4 years
- Microgrants for community culture. Small, fast grants of up to CZK 25,000 for first-time applicants running neighborhood events, with simple paperwork and no red tape. We will shift part of the existing grant money in this direction, without increasing the overall culture budget.
- The Barrandov Neighborhood Festival. An annual community festival for whole families: music, a program for children, local associations, a swap market and food. A new tradition that will strengthen community life in one of the largest neighborhoods of Prague 5.
- Portheimka as a living cultural center. A regular program in the baroque Portheimka: concerts, exhibitions, debates and events for schools, with simple curation and cooperation with the local scene. An open center of Prague 5, accessible to everyone.
- Culture out into the streets and parks. Concerts, open-air cinema and exhibitions on Chaplinovo náměstí, at Santoška and in other places, in cooperation with organizers, companies and developers. Free and outdoors, with no trip downtown.
